I am Troy Davis by Jen Marlowe is both evocative and telling of a system in desperate need of change. I had first learned of Troy Anthony Davis story and struggle through Democracy Now! before also hearing of his struggle in the music of State Radio. The larger story of the appeals process and ultimately the execution of a man, who thousands believed was not guilty of the crime he was accused of is found within Marlowe’s book. The story of Troy Davis isn’t simply one of a singular victim of a belligerent (and racist) justice system in a southern state, it is the story of the movement standing in opposition to the death penalty and a family which brought needed attention to the issue.
