Sept 6, 2011: Execution date set

Two years ago today, GA set execution date for Troy Davis.

I will never forget the moment I got the text from Troy’s sister Kim informing me the date had just been set, for Sept 21, 2011.

When the date was set, we all (Amnesty, NAACP, allies, supporters) sprang into action.

At that time, we still had a lot of hope that Troy’s killing could–and would–be prevented.
It was strange combination of feelings: amazing energy/hope coming from all the amazing folks taking action, combined with dread about the possible outcome.

I will always have so much appreciation for the folks who gathered in the trenches together from Sept 6, 2011 until Sept 21, 2011 and beyond.Image
